Jennie M. Haver Mrmorial Scholarship

$106,000 Scholarship dollars awarded to 18 Hunterdon Students

One of the largest private scholarship funds in New Jersey has just awarded 18 Hunterdon High School Students with $106,000.  Dedicated to Hunterdon County, the Fund awards high school students with financial needs who have also achieved excellent academics.  This year’s recipients are a diverse group who worked hard to achieve outstanding grades, participated in community giving, and held part-time jobs to help meet current expenses. In a required essay, each student openly shared their life story of the challenges they overcame to achieve academic success and the vision they hold to make a difference in life.

Since its humble beginnings in 1956, the Jennie M Haver Scholarship Fund has awarded 533 students over $1.6 Million.  The scholarship program is funded by donations of individuals and businesses in the community who recognize the value of higher education as a good return on charitable contributions.  This year, the fund received a $15,000 bequest from the estate of Gus and Anne Wachholz, longtime residents of Annandale.  “My aunt and uncle had the resolute belief that a higher education needs to be accessible to the brightest academic minds regardless of financial need” said Mr. William Kottke, nephew of Anne Wachholz. “And, I am proud to partner with the Haver Scholarship Fund to administer my Aunt’s wishes.”

Daniella Fodera, a student at North Hunterdon, receives the 1st of 3 named Wachholz scholarships focused on the study of engineering.  Her total award, in combination with a memorial scholarship, is $10,000.  She will be attending Lehigh University in the fall to study Bio-engineering.

Margaret Fribergs, Voorhees High School, was chosen to receive the “Ella Haver Science Scholarship” in the amount of $13,000.  Kevin Liu, also of Voorhees was granted $10,000 to study at Rutgers where he will major in Chemistry.  Recipients of $6,000 Haver Memorial awards are: Woravan Tangtrakul from South Hunterdon; Jessica Fielding and Andrea Jindracek both from Voorhees; Jacqueline Zuccarelli, Stefanie Sciacca, and Timothy Woody all from North Hunterdon; Gwendolyn Paul from Delaware Valley; and, Tim Perkins and Taylor Baber from Central.

Additionally, the Fund offers scholarships in specific disciples.  The recipients of these awards are: Danielle Kobner from Central for Nursing; Asley Luster from South Hunterdon for Civic Achievements; Ian Bydalek for Agriculture and Matthew Migliorino for Music, both from Delaware Valley; Taylor Beaver for Vocational Training and Eyislentd Jimenez for Education, both from North Hunterdon.

“While some people might take education for granted, said Katherine Bagin Theleman, fund president, “the recipients of the Haver Scholarship have demonstrated their steadfast and unflinching passion for education despite challenges life throws into their paths.  They are resilient, positive, thankful, and not afraid to work hard.  We are very proud of the class of 2014. They represent the hope for a better America.”

The Jennie Haver scholarship which I was awarded in 2006 allowed me the opportunity to reap the benefits of a university education, helping me to prepare for the competitive "real world" of a professional musician.  My time in Philadelphia at the University of the Arts was extraordinarily formative educationally as well as personally.

Your generosity helped mold my experience in college. I’ve managed to create a diverse network of friends and family while continuing to pursue my chemical engineering degree along with a concentration in nanotechnology. I’ve also developed invaluable leadership skills that I will most definitely carry with me the rest of my life…. Matthew Louie 2009 Recipient
I would like to thank you again and again for the money that you provided me with because it has helped me greatly.  I never realized how much textbooks cost until I had go digging into my own pockets to purchase them...
